The menstrual cup - A healthy alternative to tampons

"Hi, I would just like to say, I am using the mooncup for the first time this month and I am absolutely loving it.
I have told ALL the women I know about it."
Sylvie "I recently ordered one of your mooncups. At this point I will say that I am not your typical consumer and rarely take notice of adverts. I'm ashamed to say that I can't even remember where I saw your name but, with tongue in cheek, the idea of a mooncup appealed to my greener side. However, as I am 49 and approaching the change with heavy periods, a not too wonderful pelvic floor and a vagina that hates foreign bodies in it I have to say I was very. very, sceptical.

"I am impressed. I am fascinated. How come I have never heard of one of these before? Why aren't they on the usual supermarket shelves alongside tampons etc. This is my first time of using it and like I say I have very heavy periods and am amazed that this doesn't leak. It doesn't smell. It feels comfortable once I have cut the stem to the right length. It's so easy to use and store. Even my vagina seems to accept it. No more packing my supermarket trolley out with packets of tampax and sanitary towels. I shall treat myself with the money I will be saving! We have recently had cause to have Dyna-Rod out because our sewerage overflowed. My husband was convinced it was me putting sanitary towels down there!! It could have been. £17.99 is far cheaper than the £100 charge for overflowing drains!!

I will now spread the word. All my friends are going to know about this and I sincerely hope they give it a try. "

From a very satisfied customer.

"We just got ourselves a mooncup each and are skipping with joy that is mooncupness. the little bags are really cute and the liitle blue ribbons are very pretty. but the actual moncup itself looks kind of scary and medical and we think they should come in different colours and maybe with sparkles. just because something is useful doesn't mean it can't be pretty too. Other than this we think mooncups are fabulous and are currently attempting to convert all our friends to the wonder of mooncups.

p.s. would it be possible to get some more stickers. I made the foolish mistake of getting my new mooncup out to show my sister while in a bar with some friends and some of the boys decided they wanted to wear the stickers."

"I've been using the moon cup now for a while now. At first it was weird to use, as I have always been used to tampons and towels, (which made me have a lot of problems!). I never thought there was any alternative.

But after I got used to it, the mooncup made me feel unbelievable happy. I felt FREE!!!!!!!!! It made me feel so alive, that I did not have to worry about having a period, the one thing about being a women that we all truely hate. My period used to rule my life!!!!!! NO MORE !!!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE MOONCUP!!!"

I’d just like to say how pleased I am with my mooncup. This is the first period I have used it for and the only problem I can see with it is I keep forgetting its there! One of the reasons I decided to try it was to save damage to the environment, but I also thought it would be a good for when I am travelling. No more lugging bags of tampons etc., round in your rucksack. No more trying to find somewhere that actually stocks tampons if you are in certain countries or off the beaten track and no pollution to the countries you are visiting either. Its great!

I have never ever contated the seller of any product to express my thanks, but having just finished using mooncup for the first time this month I am contacting you to say a HUGE thankyou. I wish I had overcome my squeamishness years ago and used it before.

So could you please send me more of your leaflets and stickers as I think I have become pretty evangelical about it already! I am very keen to spread the word!

Susan

"I've been using my mooncup for the first time these past few days and it seems to be working really well. Everything everyone says about it on your site is true!"

Jamie

"I just wanted to say how great the mooncup is. Since having my second child I have not been able to find a tampon that fits comfortably. "My friend Jeanette suggested a mooncup and I would like to say a big 'thanks' to her. I am using the mooncup for the first time and I hardly know it's there. What a brilliant idea!"

Kate

"I recently purchased, and took delivery of, a type A mooncup.

This is the first day I have used it, and I just wanted to let you know that I am VERY impressed!

It was easy to use, and doesn't leak...even a bit! I just can't quite believe how good it is...no more tampons or sanitary towels...ever!

I was wondering if you could send me some more adverts. I am a student, and there are MANY places I can think of to advertise the mooncup. I just hope that other people are as convinced and open to try new ideas as me.

Why don't more people know about it?"

Fran

"I've been using the mooncup for 2 months and its great basically because it doesn't pollute the environment and its very cost effective in relation to other products. It does also make for an easier period and generally a more enjoyable one. Its comfortable to wear and I find I change it much less often than tampons, in fact its easy to forget its there."

Wendy

"I am very pleased with my Mooncup, and much happier with my periods! I have gone back to having a standard coil, which makes bleeding pretty heavy, so Tampax have never been too great, yet the cup copes just fine! However, I was a little shocked by volume! The leaflet says that the cup holds an ounce, which is roughly a third of the average total, yet my was full a good twelve times!! So, credit due to a great system - no going back for me! I am also amazed about the difference in terms of 'vaginal moisture' - never thought about it before really, but the difference is very appreciable and feels much healthier. I found the cup easy from the very first attempt, so feel my money was well spent - just need to convince a few others!"

Jacqueline

"Just wanted to let you know how great the mooncup is! I'm at college (training to be a priest) and have told the women about it and put the website on the group email (- even the chaps read it!) I'm on my second period with it now, and have given away the remainder of my sanitary towels and tampons today - I have lots more room in my drawer now too! Thank you for making these wonderful devices!"

Rachel

Hurrah for the Mooncup!

I've been using it for about 7 months now and it's such a great thing. I first saw it advertised (or something very similar) in a magazine in New York last summer and was intrigued. Then at Glastonbury last year there was a little stand in the Green Fields and that's where I got my leaflet from.

I love the fact that I'm not flushing more things down the toilet, or adding to the mass of waste every house produces. I love the fact that it has undoubtably saved me money. It feels like the natural thing to do - to let the flow out rather than plug it or soak it up. I was a little squeamish at first, to be honest, but now actually find it fascinating to be able to observe just how much blood comes out of you.

I am proud to say I have converted one friend (and am working on others) and she, in turn, converted a friend of hers. Her friend's first mooncup didn't last very long as the dog chewed it up, but she immediately got another one!

Every woman should use this - it's the obvious and sensible thing!

Can I have some leaflets and some stickers to carry on my crusade please?

Thank you
Alison

Dear Su,

I'd just like to say how pleased I am with my mooncup. I am now on my third period with it and it seems to be working really well. Everything about it on your website is true. It's great because it doesn't pollute the environment, it is cost effective and totally comfortable once you get used to it. (I did have trouble trying to get it out one time!!) Also it is good for travelling with - no more tampons popping out of your case all the time.

So could you please send me more of your leaflets and stickers as I am keen to spread the word!

Laura

hello, just needed to write to you and make a hugh deal about the mooncup. ive just finished my very heavy period, and used the mooncup all though it. its fabulous! ive never worn a tampon without it leaking. so i always need to use towels aswell. not with the mooncup. i used a panty liner just in case but i didnt need it. it was weird, it was like i wasnt on a period. i work in a large store and im going to tell everyone all about it. why isnt it available to buy in a regular shop like boots or a supermarket? anyway thanks for the mooncup. i will never use tampons again.

Larissa x

I think the Mooncup is brilliant. I don't have to stuff my bag with towels and tampons; I don't have to stuff them in my pockets when going to the loo; When I travel, I don't have to calculate whether my period might start while I'm away and plan for that; I will never again be stuck in hospital and

have to ask a friend to bring me some tampons next visit; I don't have to visit that aisle when shopping ... and it's SO much cheaper.

Yeah. Thanks!
Laura

Dear Su,

Thank you for my mooncup.

I originally bought it to use when running and swimming. I was brought up not to use tampons because of the risk of TSS and spent many teenage holidays trying not to explain why I couldn't go swimming etc etc. If only I'd known about the Mooncup then.

My initial plan had been to buy a Mooncup for occasional use when exercising/camping and to use washable towels for the majority of my period. However, I gave it a fair go during my first cycle, using disposable towels at night (I had not invested in the washable ones yet). By the end of the three month trial period I had given all my disposable products away and did not feel the need to buy the re-useable towels. I find it the best product I have ever used. It is not uncomfortable once in position, I have confidence that it will not leak and as so many of your other testimonials have said, it has given me a new sense of freedom. I do a lot of outdoor activities and knowing that all I need to carry is the Mooncup saves me an awful lot of planning. It's great when you are going on a night out too. No extra things to tuck into your handbag.

As an environmentalist concerned about sea pollution and with the forthcoming EU legislations on cutting household waste, it is really something that I wish more women would look to as a good alternative to disposables.

As an aside, my husband was really pleased when he found out it was made in the UK. He was a bit grossed out when I was sterilising it in the saucepan, but he's got used to that now.

I hope that Mooncup is here to stay. I shall certainly propose it to any girls I may have in the future.

Thank you again
Mercedes

PS - given that there is the EU landfill directive coming into effect over the next few years, it might be a good time for Mooncup to consider an advertising campaign to get the product into mainstream awareness. Most of my friends do not have the same concerns that I do and would go "Ick" if I broached the subject (I did once - there was a full scale argument over it). A product as good as yours should really be pushed to its full potential in my opinion. Also, it makes it seem a more palatable choice for those young people that would like to use it but are afraid of what their peers would say.

Hi,
I thought I would write and tell you how pleased I am with the Mooncup!

I must say that I wasn't sure about it to start with, but I love to try new ways of making my life easier, especially when it comes to things that aren't at all easy to begin with!

OK, I'd say that when you first use it, it can be a little bit of a struggle getting it in. It isn't the smallest thing, but persevere and this is a minor skirmish compared to the money and the bother that you save by using it. I can't believe how it feels once it's in - or should I say, how it doesn't feel! You can't notice the thing at all, which always seems bizarre given its size.

It has to be said that the mooncup is about 283743537 times better than tampons - my periods are a little lighter than most, and with this in mind, I'm sure many ladies will know what I mean when I say I hate it when a tampon is 'still dry' and you try to take it out - ouch!! This is not at ALL a problem with the mooncup, and I particularly like how you can put it in when you think your period might be coming, and if it doesn't, there's no waste and no danger to yourself. (Especially if you have periods that come along really suddenly and without warning, like mine!)

It's also a nice relief to the conscience not having the worry of filling up bins/toilets with disposable sanitary products! The only disposables I ever use now are those tiny little pantyliners, which are nice if you just want it there "in case", they're cheap and they won't hurt to chuck in the bin. It's great to think how much I must be savng on those.

I'd like to cap this off by saying - girls, how many times can you go to the gym, work out for an hour and then sit in the jacuzzi for half an hour afterwards - all whilst on your period?! I don't think I could have done any of that without my mooncup, and I did just that very thing today!

I would definitely recommend this to anybody (I am currently trying to convince my mum to get one!) and I hope anybody reading this will at least give it a go!

Thanks,
Vicky just wanted to write saying a huge thankyou for this product! I find the whole moontime experience to be so much easier. It used to be such a pain having to remember to buy tampons as I only used organic ones and had a 12 mile round trip to buy them. Now I simply open my bathroom cabinet door! The mooncup has also given me a different perspective on my moontime and I feel more connected to this aspect of my feminine. So thankyou again, this product really is a delight

I ordered my mooncup about 4 months ago and I have to say I am now a complete convert! Why on earth did I ever use ill fitting tampons and bulky towels, the mooncup is fab!

After my first period using ii I couldnt wait till my next period to use it again!!!! I have to say it fitted well from the first time I used it, with no leaks at all, (although slightly sceptical I used it with a pad for the first time).

I put all the stickers on the toilet doors at uni, I can't tell enough other women about it!

Not only am I helping the environment (my initial reason for getting one), but I now feel more liberated

Many thanks once again!
Bella

Dear Su, I am just writing to express my support for the Mooncup.

I have been living in Northern Spain for the last 15 years and came across the Mooncup quite by chance this Christmas while wandering around The Natural Grocery Store in my hometown of Cheltenham .

After using it I am delighted. I have told all my friends and workmates about it and I believe that at least two have ordered a Mooncup through your website. I was pleased to find that the website has been partially translated into Spanish so my Spanish friends can also read up about it. I have also mentioned the Mooncup to a local shop and given them a leaflet in the hope that they may be interested in selling them.

However I feel I would like to do more. I feel that not enough women, especially outside of the UK, are aware of your product and of all the benefits both for themselves and for the environment. As you say in your leaflet, the more women that use the Moocup the less tampons there are in the sea!

I was wondering how I could have discovered the Mooncup sooner and I have had a couple of ideas which I shall mention, although I feel sure they have already been considered by you and your team.

Would it be possible to persuade any of the large environmental organisations like Greenpeace or Friends of the Earth to take up the issue and spread the word? I have received leaflets from them in the past at the same time as their own circulars.

I was disappointed to see that the Mooncup is not stocked by the Natural Collection catalogue, which I know about through my membership to Greenpeace, although they do sell Natracare sanitary products.

Does the Mooncup get sold through Chemist's in the UK? Is there not another, established company that could take on large scale distribution of the Mooncup through Chemist's throughout Europe?

I am sure that all this has been discussed at great length by your own marketing experts and do not imagine that my suggestions will be of much use. I only wish I had discovered the Mooncup before and would like to make as many people aware of this environmentally friendly and economic alternative to tampons.

Yours sincerely,
Victoria

Hi Su,

Just an email to say how much I love my mooncup! It's only my first day using it, but I can safely say that so far I think it's absolutely wonderful! Had a few problems inserting & removing at first, but now I'm getting a bit more used to the cup (& myself - was never so 'hands on' before) it's becoming a lot easier. I can't believe I didn't try this earlier (time to start converting my flatmates & sister!)

Would it be possible for you to send me some more stickers? I have plans to plaster them around my University campus & spread the word.

Thanks,
Jenn

Hi Su

I have to say I do not often contact maufacturers after buying something but I have to in this case.....my Mooncup has changed my life.....well that time of the month anyway!

I ordered one and will admit I was a little sceptical but really wanted to give it a shot.....i'm all for more eco-friendly ideas for anything! Once getting used to using it the first month I am amazed - I honestly forget about it even being there! No more rustling in a public toilet, no more feeling like I am wearing a nappy at night with a huge "night-time pad"!! That week of the month really used to rule my life....I'd arrange and cancel outings etc around it....NO MORE! So a HUGE thank you to Mooncup - it really has changed my life!

THANK YOU!
